Trim is the cheapest way to make a plain room look built rather than assembled. It is also unforgiving: houses settle, walls are not square, and a miter cut at exactly 45 degrees will leave a gap on most corners in a real house.
Almost no interior corner in a lived-in house is a true 90 degrees. Cutting both pieces at 45 and hoping is how you get a visible gap. Inside corners get coped so one piece follows the profile of the other, which stays tight even as the house moves through a Tennessee summer.
Priming and painting the trim before it goes up means less cutting-in on your walls and a cleaner line. Nail holes get filled and touched up after. If the walls are also being painted, we sequence both so you are not paying to mask the same room twice.
If you are replacing damaged trim in one room, the profile needs to match the rest of the house or the repair will read as a patch. Send a photo of the end cut and we will identify the profile or the closest stock match before buying material.
