Accessibility Statement

The standard we build to

We target the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. That is the benchmark most commonly referenced in relation to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

What is implemented on this site

• Text contrast meets or exceeds 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and interface elements.
• Every interactive element is reachable and operable with a keyboard, in an order that matches the visual layout, with a clearly visible focus indicator.
• A “Skip to main content” link is the first item in the tab order on every page.
• One h1 per page and a heading structure that does not skip levels, so screen reader users can navigate by heading.
• Every form field has a visible label that is programmatically associated with it. Errors are described in text next to the field, not by color alone, and are announced to assistive technology.
• Touch targets are at least 44 pixels tall, which is comfortably above the WCAG 2.2 minimum.
• Icons are decorative and hidden from screen readers; their meaning is always carried by adjacent text or an accessible label.
• Images carry descriptive alternative text. Purely decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
• Animation is limited to short transitions, and all of it is disabled automatically for visitors whose system requests reduced motion.
• The page language is declared, and the layout works down to a 320 pixel viewport and up to 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling.

What we do not use

This site does not use an accessibility overlay or toolbar widget. Those products do not produce genuine conformance and frequently interfere with the assistive technology people already use. We fix accessibility in the code instead.

Known limitations

This is an honest statement rather than a claim of perfection. Accessibility is checked as part of every update, and issues are still possible. Third-party content, such as an embedded map or an analytics script, is not fully under our control.
