The paint is the last four hours of a painting job. Everything before it, filling, sanding, caulking, masking, is what decides whether the finish still looks right in two years.
Cabinets are not walls. Doors come off and get labeled, hardware is removed, surfaces are degreased and scuff sanded, and a bonding primer goes on before the finish coat. Skip any of those and the paint chips at the handles within a year. Plan on the kitchen being partly out of use for a few days.
Flat hides wall imperfections but does not wipe clean. Eggshell and satin handle hallways, kids rooms and rentals. Semi-gloss belongs on trim, doors and bathrooms where moisture and hands land. If you are unsure, tell us how the room gets used and we will recommend the sheen.
Exterior paint needs dry surfaces and moderate temperatures to cure properly, which in Middle Tennessee means scheduling around humidity and summer afternoon storms. We watch the forecast and will move a day rather than put a coat on a wall that is about to get rained on.
